Big Sky Mind: Drinks, Food, Music

Anywhere with cheap beer/food and good crowd + music should be considered a great place. An example would be Big Sky Mind in Quezon City. It's been around for quite some time (1999, to be exact) so don't be surprised to see crowds in their mid-30s especially during weekdays. It's a place where you could relax with a cold bottle of beer after a long tiring day at work. Please, don't expect a fancy place, hotel-like restroom, or speedy service. Go to Encore or something.

Big Sky Mind: Since 1999

Going there early, say 7pm, would only disappoint you as you will be greeted by a CLOSED sign. The staff usually come in at around 8:30-9pm so it's safe to drop by at that time. It stays open until 5am, Tuesdays-Sundays.

Upon entering the 2-storey bar, you'll see several chairs, tables, bar stools, and fluffy couches. If you have sensitive skin, stay away from the couch else you'll end up with red spots all over your arms. Well, not really. But I hope you get the idea.

When the place is not packed, a staff will come up to you with a menu in hand. During gig nights and/or weekends, just go straight to the bar area and get your order directly from the bartender. Shouting could also be an option. Local beers cost around Php35 to Php50 a bottle which is really really cheap compared to Makati bars, even Cubao X. Non-beer drinkers, on the other hand, should not worry because Big Sky has an extensive reasonably-priced cocktail & shooters menu--including Absinthe. Yeah. The Green Fairy.

I want that 'Bartenders are Gods' shirt!!!

Flipping the other side of the laminated blue menu, you'll see a long list of different food offerings: appetizers, rice meals, burgers, omeletes, pizzas, plus other items rarely offered in a bar. Mixed fries (Php125) and Chicken fingers (Php125) are my favorites!

Rucksack Inn Singapore via Hostels.com

UPDATE: Read my Rucksack Inn review with photos here

===

I already booked a room for our Baybeats Singapore trip on August. We don't want to stay at those fancy and EXPENSIVE hotels so we had our eyes on affordable inns/hostels/guesthouses. Also, we need to reserve ample funds for vodka/beer money.

So while searching the wawawa for places near Baybeats' venue (Esplanade Drive), I came across this new place called Feel at Home. The room rates are affordable with breakfast AND free wifi! Showed it to my friend Kin, but she said it's quite far from Esplanade. She then pointed Rucksackk Inn, since it's more accessible to Esplanade Drive. After checking the rates, reviews, and their official site (it's so cuuuute!), I decided to book early via Hostels.com. A 10% downpayment plus SGD2 transaction fee are required for the online reservation. If you sign up as Hostels.com member (email address required), the transaction fee will be automatically waived.

Paid a downpayment of PHP1,568.97 <3

Our 3-night accommodation totaled PHP15,689.74 or SGD462. We got a quad-sharing private room and a space in the 28-bed mixed dorm. It's a bummer that an extra bed for a quad-room is not allowed. So one of us--that would be me--would have to share a room with 27 other strangers. Good thing the rate already includes breakfast and wifi so I guess I'll just update my Facebook while on bed. Another option is to crash inside the room when I'm already drunk so there's no need to *mingle* hihi.

I still don't know who will be this year's foreign band, but the first 8 Baybeats bands were already announced. Jesus, I really can't wait to get drunk in SG. Please be August already!

Globe and Touch Mobile make ‘tingi loading’ a summer breeze

Everyone says that summer is the season of firsts: First crush, first kiss, first barkada beach trip, and more. Well, imagine being able to buy cellphone prepaid load for the first time ever in a jeepney on your way home, or from the fishball vendor who sells you merienda everyday. So instead of having to hunt high and low for prepaid load, the load now comes right to you.

This summer, Globe, Globe Tattoo and Touch Mobile gives you a first you’ve never had before: The first-ever 10 Peso Tingi Load, greeting you almost anywhere you turn. So you can buy P 10 Tingi Load on your daily bus ride, over the counter at your favorite fastfood, and even from the takatak boy on the street corner.

Sold in easy-to-use and ultra-secure scratch cards, Globe Tattoo’s P 10.00 Tingi Load is available on buses, jeepneys, FXs, and also from street vendors, train stations and selected restaurants. Just scratch off the protective film and use your Tattoo mobile phone to key in the PIN you see there, and you’ll be all set.

Globe’s marketing chief Menchi Orlina explains, “This summer, we’ll make being Globe-connected a breeze. Summer is a busy time for everyone, and with so many exciting things going on, who wants to wait for prepaid load? Now you can get loaded in a flash just about anywhere. Our P 10 Tingi Load gives you an affordable, easily available option, so you can load up when you board the bus to the mall, or when you buy your snack from the corner jolly jeep. With Globe Tattoo, now the load comes to you.”

As the mercury rises, you can stay cool knowing you’ll always be connected to your friends, and summer adventures are just a call, text or instant message away only with Globe, Globe Tattoo and TM’s P 10 Tingi Load.
